Thursday, August 5 2010 - Canadian Mountain Running Team 2010

The following athletes will represent Canada at the 2010 World Mountain Running Championships in Kamnik, Slovenia on September 5th, 2010:

Senior Men:

Adrian Lambert (Edmonton, AB) is a veteran mountain runner. Adrian will be competing in his fourth-consecutive World Mountain Running Championships. He was 21st in 2007, 75th in 2008 and 84th in 2009. He was the Canadian Mountain Running Champion in 2007 and 2008. He has also represented Canada in cross country at the 2007 NACAC and 2006 FISU championships.  He was a CIS All-Canadian in cross country in 2004 (2nd team, 14th) and 2005 (First team, 7th).

Alex Hutchinson (Toronto, ON) is a veteran long-distance runner. Alex will be competing in his first World Mountain Running Championships. He competed at three World Cross Country Championships (2001, 2002 and 2008) and competed for Canada at the World University Games in 2001. He has a personal best of 3:42 in the 1500m. He recently began competing in mountain running and finished second at the Lithgow King of the Mountains race in Australia earlier this year.

Dylan Hackenbrook (Red Deer, AB) is an up-and-coming Canadian distance runner. He will be competing in his first World Mountain Running Championships. Dylan had a strong finish at the Canadian Mountain Running Championships and has been enjoying a break-through season. He is the two-time Harvest Run champion. He competed in the CIS National Cross-Country Championships three years in a row.

James Richardson (Duncan, BC) is a veteran mountain runner. He will be competing in his second World Mountain Running Championships. James finished 110th in 2008 at the World Mountain Running Trophy. His wife, Emily Solsberg, is also a member of the Canadian team.

Kristopher Swanson (Tumbler Ridge, BC) is a veteran mountain runner. Kris will be competing in his third-consecutive World Mountain Running Championships. He was 73rd at the 2008 World Mountain Running Trophy and 64th at the 2009 World Mountain Running Championships. In 2009 he finished 3rd in the uphill portion of the Commonwealth Mountain Running Championships. He was also a CIS All-Canadian in cross country in 2005 (2nd team, 11th).

Mark Vollmer (Guelph, ON) is a veteran mountain runner. Mark will be competing in his third World Mountain Running Championships. He finished 87th in 2007 and 76th in 2008 in the World Mountain Running Trophy. He was a multiple-time CIS All-Canadian in cross country while representing the University of Guelph in the early '00s.


Senior Women:

Brooke Gosling (Canmore, AB) is a top-level cross country skier. She began her career as a runner before switching to skiing. She finished second at the 2010 Canadian Mountain Running Championships. As a skier, she races for the Alberta World Cup Academy.

Emily Solsberg (Duncan, BC) is a veteran mountain runner. She finished 85th in 2008 and 63rd in 2009 at the World Mountain Running Championships. She began mountain running while living in New Zealand from 2003-2005 and is coached by Kevin Ross from Wellington, New Zealand. Her racing highlight is competing for Canada at the 2008 World Mountain Running Trophy in Sierre, Switzerland. She lives in Vancouver with husband James Richardson, who is also a member of the Canadian team.

Maria Zambrano (Calgary, AB) is a veteran long-distance runner and is the 2010 Canadian Mountain Running Champion. She competed at two World Cross Country Championships (2003 and 2004) and competed at the World Half-marathon Championships in 2004. She now lives and trains in Quito, Ecuador with her husband, Steven Tober, and their two young children.

Sylvia Corbett (Calgary, AB) is a veteran mountain runner. She will be making her fifth appearance on the Canadian mountain running team. Syl was 79th in 2008 and 46th in 2009 at the World Mountain Running Championships. Her best finish was 41st in 2003, as part of Canada’s best women’s team finish (10th). She is a former member of Canada’s duathlon and triathlon teams, winner of several marathons, including Calgary in 2003 and 2004, and the 2009 Canadian Snowshoe Championships.

Team managers are Will Critchley and Carolyn Lambert.
