2018 Canadian Mountain Running Championships Events

A) Where and When are the Canadian Mountain Running Championships ?

The Canadian Mountain Running Championships will be hosted in Golden, BC on June 9th, 2018. You can register for the 2018 Canadian Mountain Running Championships if you have met the eligibility criteria discussed below. You can register for the event at the National Championships website.

B) Do I need to Qualify to Compete at the Canadian Mountain Running Championships?

Yes. Competitors need to qualify to compete at the 2018 Canadian Mountain Running Championships by meeting any one (or more) of the selection criteria set out below.

C) How Do I Qualify to Compete at the Canadian Mountain Running Championships?

Athletes wishing to participate in the Canadian mountain running championships will have to qualify by meeting any one (or more) of the following criteria:

  1. you have previously competed for Canada in Mountain Running or Cross-Country Running at the international level in the last 5 years (NACAC, Worlds or Commonwealth Championships)

  2. you have finished in the top three in your age group in a Canadian Regional Mountain Running Qualifying Series race:

    • Eastern Qualifying Race: Xtrail Mont Sutton, June 2, 2018 [Note: racers can qualify for the Canadian Mountain Running Championships by finishing in the top three in their age group in any of the 6.5k, 11.8k or 22k races]

    • Ontario Qualifying Race: 5Peaks Kelso Half Marathon, May 5, 2018 [Note: racers can qualify for the Canadian Mountain Running Championships by finishing in the top three in their age group in ANY DISTANCE (Sport, Enduro OR Half Marathon). Please note that the Terra Cotta race has been cancelled due to weather.

    • Prairies Qualifying Race: MEC Whitemud Creek, May 20, 2018 [Note: racers can qualify for the Canadian Mountain Running Championships by finishing in the top three in their age group in any of the 6k, 11k or 15k races]

    • BC Qualifying Race: Loop the Lakes, May 19, 2018 [Note: racers can qualify for the Canadian Mountain Running Championships by finishing in the top three in their age group in any of the 8k, 15k or 21k races]

  3. you have run under 36 minutes (men) or 40 minutes (women) for 10 kilometres in 2017 or 2018 in a sanctioned road or cross-country race or any other equivalent race result.

D) Where and When are the Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships?

The Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships are being hosted at The North Face Kal Park Dirty Feet 50 on May 6th, 2018.

The Kal Park Dirty Feet 50 will be the qualifying race for the 15th WMRA Long Distance Mountain Running Championships on June 24th in Poland.

E) Do I need to Qualify to Compete at the Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships?

No. Any athlete is eligible to compete at the Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championships. Register by going to the North Face Kal Park Dirty Feet 50k race page, set out above.

F) I want to Compete for Canada Internationally. How do I qualify for the national team?

The 2018 National Team Selection criteria is available here as well as on the front page in the download section - National Team Selection Criteria

G) Do I need to be a member of the Canadian Mountain Running Association to be Eligible for the National Team?

Yes. Only members of the Canadian Mountain Running Association will be consider for positions on the national team.
